All About First Grade
All About First Grade

Hello, I am Ashley Teagle, the First Grade teacher at Heatherwood Christian School. In my classroom, I strive to provide a Christ-centered, enriching, loving learning environment for everyone. I enjoy meeting students on their level and watching them soar throughout the year. I have worked at Heatherwood for 4 years now and it has become a second home to me. I live in Newnan with my three amazing kids, our dog Luna and our cat Snowflake. In my spare time I enjoy being outside, swimming, bowling, reading, and spending time with my children. I received my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Grand Canyon University.

In First Grade we use curriculums by Tara West for our Science, Social Studies, Phonics, Grammar and Writing Curriculum, Abeka Spelling, Saxon Math, Saxon Phonics and Positive Action Bible Curriculum. Tara West’s phonics curriculum allows us to use her Science of Reading program to help our students become proficient in reading and writing using phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The Science and Social Studies curriculum allows students to perform hands-on, engaging activities as they explore these areas of study. Saxon Math allows students to use hands-on activities using manipulatives to extend their math concepts. The combination of these curriculum programs meet the Georgia Standards of Excellence to ensure our students receive the best education possible while maintaining a small class size in a Christian environment. Positive Action Bible Curriculum allows us to help build students’ knowledge of the Bible and their relationship with Jesus Christ, which is our most important goal! Our First Graders will also attend field trips throughout the year to help enrich their learning experiences. In addition to our classroom, students will also enjoy Music, Art, STEAM, Spanish and Chapel as specials this year.

All about Second Grade
All about Second Grade

Hi! My name is Claire Stinson. I am excited to be the Second Grade teacher at Heatherwood Christian School. This is a full circle moment for me, since I was part of the original staff who helped open HBC Preschool and was a Pre-K teacher for 8 years. This will be my 21st year teaching. I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ hours toward a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I am certified in PK-5th Grade. I spent the last 20 years teaching Pre-K, 2nd Grade and 4th Grade. I have been awarded 1998 Beginning Teacher of the Year, 2000 Reading Teacher of the Year, and most recently 2021 Teacher of the Year at my previous school. I am also trained in the Orton-Gillingham Reading and Writing Program, CPR Certified, and continue to take classes to stay up to date on current educational strategies.

The Second Grade classroom will consist of a loving, interactive environment where students with a variety of learning styles engage in activities that challenge and produce successful results. Biblically based lessons will be taught using Positive Action Bible curriculum with an emphasis on scripture, worship music and prayer. Engaging, hands-on, critical thinking activities in the core subject areas of Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies will be taught using Tara West curriculum that aligns to state and national standards, as well as Abeka for Spelling and Phonics. An environment that involves community, mission and field trip opportunities, and technology will help promote a love for learning atmosphere. Second Graders will participate in specials classes which include Art, Music, STEAM, Spanish and Chapel. With small class sizes, teachers will have the opportunity to individualize instruction to cater to each student’s needs.
